The epic survival tale begins in Book I of Adam’s Chronicles with our world facing pending impact by a gigantic meteor. Adam Boatwright copes with his greatest challenge preparing for the collision and dealing with the aftermath of the massive calamity.
When all hope of saving the planet is lost, the rescuers hole up in a deep cavern to wait out the catastrophe. Their story deals with worthiness of the human race, family planning, reproductive politics, planned mutations, cloning, animal rights, immortality, sexual preferences, and what life to restore. They encounter betrayal, career crises, shattered dreams, sacrifice, and renewal.
This action adventure thriller includes a second group of people who ride out the meteor’s devastation. They save only themselves by occupying an Antarctic research station where they would comfortably wait for the planet to calm down. Their tale involves ambition, jealousy, and dominance. The meteor’s non-survivors also have a story involving political intrigue, deception, societal disintegration, coping with loss, bravery, cannibalism, religious zealotry, and hope.
Although science is a major theme, this book is non-technical and everything is discussed in ordinary language. The tale weaves together controlled evolution, intelligence enhancements, non-cryogenic embryo storage, expanded animal-human communications, and prolonged cessation of the aging process.
The saga is told as if it were real, with minimal need for reader’s to suspend their disbelief as the incredible story unfolds. Science has just a backdrop role in this epic survival adventure. Always, the main focus is on human actions and relationships. The plot combines science with conjecture, mystery, thrills, and intrigue. It is both love story and serious medical thriller that reads like a romantic science fiction tale. Except for a couple of very plausible twists, it flows like a true first-person biography.
The heroic scientist’s love for his violinist wife is the driving force behind their story. Vera compensates for Adam’s impulsiveness and helps him through tight spots with her deft logical reasoning. Some would even say their story is a romantic fantasy adventure—with minimal magic and an emphasis on science.
Adam confronts the possibility that his aging process has stopped, perhaps temporarily. He seems bigger than life, like an actual person who magically steps out of a movie screen amidst an action adventure thriller. He is on his way to becoming a superhero, though not in a physical sense. The medical doctor and geneticist is on a long mission to resurrect the planet’s ecosystem, a gargantuan task best led by a person who does not age. And like popular superheroes, Adam Boatwright has enemies. He must keep his true age a secret, lest others learn how to stop aging. Adam will someday masquerade as a normal aging person and plans to fake his death when necessary. He must detract would-be traffickers in immortality, a universal attractor that in wrong hands could bring destruction of life as we know it.

A giant meteor is going to smash into the Earth. There isn't much time to prepare, but one group of scientists, mostly biologists and medical people, have been preparing for the end of the world - expecting nuclear war. Their plans are close enough to completion to allow the team to move underground and survive.Moderately well-read genre readers will draw the obvious comparison to the Niven/Pournelle novel Lucifer's Hammer - one of my all-time favorites. These are not at all alike in tone or temperament. LH is all about the characters surviving while Adam's Caverns is all about the mission to restore Earth's ecosystems.
The problem with AC is that the characters talk about almost nothing except the mission. Almost every scene is dialog discussing the scientific basis for the actions that will be taken to further that mission. And there is virtually no debate, thus no drama. As a result, I was never able to care about any of the characters. And if I don't care about the characters the mission is irrelevant from this reader's perspective.
But the science seems reasonable if you suspend just the smallest amount of disbelief. If you have interest in how life could be brought back after an extinction event then this is a decent primer.
Some readers will find this a worthwhile read. I personally have no desire to read any more of the series.

Adam Caverns Adam Chronicles Book 1 edition by Lawrence Lapin Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
When Earth is destroyed, who can restore the animals and plants? Adam is a scientist with a conscience and he will live forever. In the first book of this series Adam, a geneticist and doctor, experimented on himself to find a cancer cure (for his wife). The result was good for him, virtual immortality. What would he do after he lost all the people he knew?
He would save the world. Developing an interest in preserving plants and animals if the world was hit by a planet-wide catastrophe, Adam and a small group of scientists stockpiled enough embryos, seeds, and spores to repopulate the earth. They stored everything in a secret New Mexico cavern. When the worst happens, we see the long process of restoring life.
This author seems to know a lot about science and gives the reader a plausible scenario. It's long and involved, but fascinating. The struggle to survive plays out on two fronts--in the cavern and with another group who flee to the Antarctic. We watch relationships fray and rebuild as the two small groups of people become the nucleus for a new world. Would it be better for earth to start over without humans? Will smart apes develop into an alternative sentient species? It's amazing to think that a small group of people could restore life to a barren planet but the author manages to make us believe. There is more to come. Adam has a very long life and may see a whole new world to come.
This is Book Two of Adam's Chronicles. It's a long story, 99 chapters, but definitely worthy of the read. I also feel it is better written and enthralling than Book One, which I also enjoyed. The common thread in this book is science, written for an average adult reader. It covers evolution, embryo storage, and in essence, as well as survival skills in a world impacted by a gigantic meteor. It's an action packed novel of adventure of living for years in cold, dark caverns in New Mexico. There are realistic ideas of how one can take steps to survive a multitude of disasters which we may all face from time to time. In this novel, Adam Boatwright and a group of scientists, supporting World Species Preservation Society, have already made in depth plans to save plants, seeds, embryos, eggs, and some animals in case of a apocalyptic event. But this time, their challenge is much larger ... dealing with the holocaust's aftermath. The team begins their crusade travelling the barren world to start reforestation and all types of life forms. Their mission is to restore as much life as possible, over as wide an area as they can, and quickly as they can. But one thing they cannot do is recreate humankind as the embryos were lost before the team locked themselves into the vast underground caverns. Can there be other intelligent survivors who can provide this? This is certainly an epic novel, one that shall never be forgotten. The author, Lawrence L. Lapin, is an extraordinary individual to write such a compelling story. He is truly gifted as a story teller. Also, there is lots to be learned in this very powerful, fast page turning story. Highly recommend.
Unlike many self-published novels, this one doesn't suffer from the distractions of bad spelling and grammar. In that sense, it's easy to read. But it doesn't tell a story. It could, but misses the mark by missing drama and emotion - how do you leave dram and emotion out of a novel about an event that's about to literally destroy the world as we know it? Answer There's an old saying in writing, "show, don't tell." This book is full of telling.
It also forgets to make the characters people. They each speak very similarly - in a stilted way that doesn't come across as believable (for one character, sure, but not for every character). Every person is inherently reasonable - even when they argue or disagree the dialogue reads like the examples of what a therapist tells those they're counseling to strive for, not how real people actually talk. Most of the characters don't have passions -- even though we're told they do (one character is a world renowned violinist who never plays her violin).
This book needed beta readers and/or an editor. There are plenty of places where full chapters or characters could be cut, and others that desperately need to be fleshed out. I finished it - and I might even read the next novel. The ideas are interesting, even if the writing isn't. What works in textbook writing doesn't work for novels.
